Facilities Show and BIFM to drive professionalisation of facilities management with new CPD opportunities

Helping to put FM firmly on the map as an established profession, Facilities Show (www.facilitiesshow.com) will work in partnership with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) to provide brand new CPD and networking opportunities at the 2012 show (15 – 17 May 2012, NEC Birmingham).

The new BIFM CPD Theatre is set to make Facilities Show the biggest networking and shared learning opportunity of the year, marking 13 years of successful partnership between the two organisations. Members of the BIFM Approved CPD Provider Network will also be running sessions in the new BIFM CPD Theatre which will see the delivery of high quality independently assessed CPD.

Valerie Everitt, Director of Education and Professional Standards at the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) believes that topping up knowledge through training and CPD opportunities now forms a critical part of every successful FM's job. "This is an exciting time for the FM profession - there is a vast talent pool of experienced FM managers and those keen to enter our industry. To remain top of your game in this economic climate, every FM, regardless of experience should invest in their personal career development, or risk being left behind!", she says.

Building on the hugely successful 2011 show which attracted a massive 17,822* facilities managers, estates, fire, security and health and safety professionals, Facilities Show is moving to Hall 2 of the NEC to accommodate the new exhibitors, feature areas, education, networking lounges and the BIFM CPD Theatre.

With an ever expanding job remit, FMs can stay abreast of the latest legislation, best practice and new products and solutions to help make their jobs and lives easier at Facilities Show 2012. Adrian Newton, Portfolio Director for Safety & Building Management believes regular networking with your peers is key: "Much research has been conducted into the effectiveness of CPD in professional networks - collaboration, peer support and use of experts are all high up on the agenda. For the profession to continue moving forward, FMs must keep talking and learning from one another", he said.

Newton concludes: “2012 is set to be an extremely positive year in FM's move towards improved status and power and standing as a managerial profession, however, we must never stand still - there is always more to be done to see FM firmly on the map in every organisation. Facilities Show 2012 will showcase our broadest range of CPD and networking opportunities ever so we look forward to welcoming ambitious FMs this May."
