Growth at The Facilities Show Highlights Industry Optimism

The Facilities Show 2011, in association with the British Institute of Facilities Managers (BIFM), has once again demonstrated growth and diversity within the facilities management industry. This valuable industry event provides a launch pad for a huge variety of innovative and pioneering products and services showcased by a multitude of industry leading exhibitors.  Taking place from 17th – 19th May at Birmingham NEC, The Facilities Show, organised by UBM Live, a division of UBM Plc, saw visitors from numerous FM sectors with the opportunity to explore the very latest in facilities services and products resulting in a year on year increase in visitor numbers of more than 30%.

Across this three day event, delegates were able to benefit from more than 100 hours of free educational content and the opportunity to research and source products from more than 200 exhibitors, representing the whole breadth of the facilities industry. Exhibitors included Shred Station, LTT Vending, Biffa Waste Services and PHS Compliance.

Ian R Fielder, CEO of BIFM, has expressed ongoing enthusiasm for the partnership between BIFM and The Facilities Show saying, "BIFM were delighted at the success of this years’ event, it was clear that visitor numbers were well up on previous years and there was a real buzz around the whole show. The standard of the educational seminars this year was incredibly high, giving valuable insights covering the whole spectrum of FM. I am looking forward to the 2012 show, especially since we are moving to a bigger hall to accommodate this growing show."

Keeping up with the latest industry developments and innovations is key for FM’s. A recent survey, carried out by BIFM, highlighted that 64.5%* of respondents rated ‘keeping up with change’ as the most important issue faced by the industry and this was central to the show. Innovation was promoted throughout the exhibition as well as in numerous educational sessions outlining the best ways for facilities professionals to keep abreast of new and emerging technologies. Looking towards the future, environmental and sustainability issues were seen as growing concerns for The Facilities Show attendees. The Sustainable FM Academy was packed with informative sessions from some of the UK’s leading organisations covering topics including waste management, urban agriculture, the new RICS Ska rating and sustainability in property.

"The Facilities Show team is delighted with the feedback received from exhibitors and visitors alike” said Adrian Newton, Portfolio Director of Safety and Building Management, UBM Live. “There was a real feeling this year that the FM profession is emerging from the recession stronger than ever. This was particularly evident in the demand for stands at the 2012 show with more than 50% already booked. We are particularly proud of the number of exhibitors included in the Green FM Trail with more than 41 companies choosing to highlight their carbon efficiency."

This year has seen the launch of The Facilities Show Africa which will take place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 6-8 September 2011. The Facilities Show Africa will be co-located with the recently announced OSH Africa and IFSEC South Africa.

Visitors to the event were also able to gain free entrance to the co-located Safety & Health Expo, IFSEC and International Firex all of which are organised by the Protection & Management series at UBM Live, part of UBM Plc.
